further, with a global shift to regenerative

precious coffee we love.

The impact of climate change on coffee

Global warming and unpredictable weather can affect coffee quality and yields, putting the futures of coffee and coffee farmers at risk. The area suitable for coffee production could be cut in half by 2050.

THE Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program

Putting care at the heart of what we do is why we created the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program 20 years ago, together with the Rainforest Alliance. But we need to do more, faster.

EMBRACING THE POWER OF NATURE

Nespresso is now transitioning towards regenerative agriculture on a global scale. A way of growing and cultivating coffee that uses nature's ability for self-healing and regeneration.

BIODIVERSITY

Protecting and restoring wildlife habitats.

CLIMATE

Lowering coffee production GHG emissions.

COMMUNITY

Improving farmer livelihoods.

SOIL

Restoring soil health.

WATER

Protecting and conserving water.

MANY STORIES, ONE FOCUS

Three farmers share their experience and learnings.

Lucimar Silva

My farm is a pilot in my region. Others come over and learn about the benefits of regenerative agriculture practices thanks to Nespresso.

Carolina Jaramillo

The Nespresso and Cornell program allows me to identify the birds in my farm and increase biodiversity.

Miloka Perera

Regenerative agriculture is the best way to go about countering climate change. We will work with Mother Nature through small steps.

Our Regenerative journey

The Nespresso regenerative farming transition is anchored in four key principles.

NATURAL ECOSYSTEMS

Supporting an agriculture that is mindful of the ecosystems, protecting wildlife habitat and conserving water.

AGROFORESTRY

Planting native trees in and around coffee farms that enable carbon sequestration as well as income diversification for farming communities.

HEALTHY COFFEE TREES

Replacing ageing coffee trees with more resilient varieties better adapted to prevailing weather conditions.

SOIL

Promoting practices based on nature, caring for long term soil health such as composting.

COMMITTED TO NET ZERO BY 2050 AT THE LATEST

We believe that a low-carbon future represents the only future. So we will reduce and remove emissions throughout our value chain – even while we grow – with a goal of net‑zero GHG emissions by 2035 at the earliest. Making collective efforts to transition AAA farmers to regenerative agricultural practices is a critical priority.

Teaming up with global coffee experts and The Rainforest alliance

Co-developed with a community of global partners and coffee experts, The Rainforest Alliance Regenerative Coffee Scorecard measures the adoption rates of regenerative practices by coffee farmers and their impact on five key areas
